More about Me:
A passionate advocate for mental and emotional wellness, Cherie is the recipient of the prestigious Mary McLeod Bethune National Council of Negro Women Community Service and Leadership Award in Psychotherapy. Her work reflects a deeply held belief that mental health extends beyond diagnosis—it is rooted in self-awareness, self-reflection, and how we navigate our daily relationships and lived experiences.
With a profound understanding of the historical and intergenerational trauma affecting Black and Brown communities, Cherie is dedicated to reducing stigma surrounding mental health treatment. She has been a featured panelist and guest on several podcasts and media platforms addressing mental health in the Black community, including News 12 Diversity Long Island and ABC’s Here and Now with journalist Sandra Bookman.
Following the tragic death of 12-year-old Dejah Joyner—an ABGS student who was fatally shot while sitting in her living room—Cherie founded the nonprofit organization Choose Love For Life, created to raise awareness and provide accessible mental health education and support to underserved communities.
